More Homes, More Choice Act

Ontario REALTORS® have been calling for bold action to Keep the Dream Alive for over three years, and in June 2019, help finally arrived with the passing of the Ford Government’s More Homes, More Choice Act.

At the heart of the Bill, which is the Government’s official plan for tackling Ontario’s housing crisis, is unlocking the development of all kinds of housing, from ownership to rental.

The Act embraces eight of the ten ideas Ontario REALTORS® put on the table, including:

  • Building next to and above major transit stations.
  • Red tape reduction: i.e. speeding up approvals, reducing red tape, controlling development charges.
  • Building more secondary suites; and
  • Unlocking surplus government lands for building housing.

This Bill is a giant leap forward in helping Canadian families achieve the dream of home ownership.
